Just saw a client today that had a vacation and said she never walked so much, and felt so great. Another client with back pain, I tell her to walk as much as she can without creating pain, her pain is improving.
Most problems, in my opinion, can be solved by walking. I’ll never forget when a “fit” girl scoffed at me for walking a 5k. Then she described her litany of injuries from her “sports.” I asked her if anyone had ever analyzed her gait, or the way she moves in general. She laughed again and stated she had been to every type of doctor on the planet. Had none of them told her maybe she should back off on distance running and just WALK? I walk on average 6 miles per day. I have zero injuries. Sometimes I walk hard, like Johnny Cash. Other times, I walk calmer. But I assure you this: I walk. If you feel like running, then SPRINT – following it with walking. Then sprint again. Park in the back of the lot and walk. Walk up the stairs and skip the escalator. It all counts. As I get older I find less need for resolutions and more need for goals. A resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something. Making a firm decision just doesn't work for me. Some would argue that goals and resolutions are the same thing, not for me. I accomplish my goals and fail at my resolutions.
My goals for 2019: Write every day. Less social media, more time for relationships. Take three workshops on feet/foot mechanics and practice, practice, practice. That's it. Nothing fancy. Nothing unattainable. All will enrich my life. What are your goals? |
